DC Food on Film

**** I interupt this regularly scheduled blog post to give a spontaneous gratitude update: We got another big funding boost in the EatsPlace Kickstarter project so thank you! The journey is the fun part, and we’re on our way! ****

True truth time: I’m very excited about tonight’s Top Chef premiere. Go Jeffrey Jew! Go Bart Vandaele! Go Dan O’Brien! I love food’s engagement of all of the senses, and films or video of food is an extension of its hyperreality. Cooking shows are an excellent transient simulacrum of making food! Especially if I think a macedoine is a country or a comic book.

Though media we can access food on another level. Without the panic of being on camera: has anyone tried to julienne while their whole body was shaking? Very hard indeed. While we wait to watch our DC chefs on TV, it might be fun to see Jennifer Crandall’s videos on Top Chef alum Carla Hall and me talk about our love of food and life in the Washington Post back in the day (6 years ago!).
